Re: Proposed Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) on Geary Boulevard

Dear Mayor Newsom:

The Golden Gate Restaurant Association supports the Greater Geary Boulevard Merchants Association in their request for a review of the impacts of a Bus Rapid Transit plan on Geary Boulevard, and agrees The City should conduct an Economic Impact Study to research the effect a BRT will have on merchants along Geary Boulevard.

The Office of Economic Analysis and Development Planning should thoroughly review and research all the options presented before the City moves ahead with this project. GGBMA has proposed several options that would minimize the impact on merchants:

Add and enforce a dedicated bus-only lane during morning and afternoon commute hours

Equip buses with GPS technology to change traffic signals to improve the flow of traffic

Eliminate several bus stops along Geary Boulevard to alleviate congestion created by buses stopping at every corner

Full evaluation of all options should occur before starting a major construction project along one of San Francisco's busiest corridors. The Golden Gate Restaurant Association urges you to consider all the options and to fully utilize the office of Economic Analysis and Development Planning in the way it was intended.

Sincerely,

Executive Director

Cc: Greater Geary Boulevard Merchants Association
San Francisco Board of Supervisors
